Humulus : top down sweater

2018 2018yearofthesweater colour work garment knit make/made sweater WINTER

2018 : top down sweater

After a LOT of deliberation, a false start or two I finally decided on my sweater project for 2018.

Does anyone else have project commitment issues? I am after all a mostly monogamous knitter!

On the plus side all that procrastinating (not procrastiKNITing) made me organise my 2018 projects on Ravelry. I hadn't entered projects on Ravelry since I was a beginner/returning knitter in 2009!

Now, I have a whole bunch of bundles that make it ever so easy to find my favourite patterns and my projects (at least the 2018 ones) are nicely collated.

I really showed Ravelry some LOVE this month.

Craft: Knit
Pattern: Humulus by Isabell Kraemer
Main yarn:  Naturally Harmony Aran 10ply from NZ in light cream/grey
Contrast yarn: Blue Sky Fibres Woolstock from my stash in deep velvet
Needle: 3.5mm & 4mm

Notes: This was my first top down sweater with colour work yolk. Totally recommend this style of construction for starting your sweater knit journey.

I was a bit concerned about my tension around the neck and into the colour work. The woolstock is a little bit lighter in weight than the naturally and has buckled a bit -a light blocking helped somewhat.

I played with the body length and still not entirely convinced. The pattern has no shaping from under the arms down and my fabric is quite firm. I think it could do with a bit more drape - maybe the 8ply next time. Nice and warm tho. Perfect boating sweater.

I also used my new LYKKE short needle tips to complete the sleeves and avoid magic loop until close to the cuff.
