BEGINNERS : KNIT Project recommendations

"Properly practiced, knitting soothes the troubled spirit, and it doesn't hurt the untroubled spirit either." Elizabeth Zimmermann

There is nothing wrong with a simple scarf or cotton washer. They are useful, practical and perfect for beginners and anyone wanting a relaxing project.

You can't beat a comfort knit like our Beginner Scarf (pattern/yarn update coming soon) using a chunky 12ply wool and 6 or 7mm needles or our Classic Seafarer scarf in Concept by Katia Ultralight Merino. Grab a set of 7 or 8mm needles and get knitting - this is a very quick knit.

Play with stitch patterns and or keep it simple - a scarf is the perfect place to start. Join both ends together and you have a cowl, add a twist and it is an infinity scarf. Experiment with needles, yarn weights and fibres. It's all part of the fun.

We love knitted and crocheted cotton washers / flannels. They are quick and allow you the opportunity to focus on basic skills, swatch stitch patterns plus they are practical and make excellent gifts. Our simple pattern recommendations are available and as well as handy kits. For a chunkier washer in gorgeous colours try the Fiddlesticks Finch 100% cotton range. Grab some coordinating colours and get knitting - practice techniques, experiment and have fun.

For a bigger project and one of our most popular to re-awaken your knitting super power is the Beginner Throw and Simple Rug. Chunky wool and chunky needles - instant gratification.

The generous people at Tin Can Knits have a whole range of projects designed to grow and develop your skills - The Simple Collection Start with a scarf and move to beanies, socks, shawls and sweaters.

We also have a INSPIRATION blog where we list project notes and photos of the projects we have been working on.

Hopefully, you have found a project to inspire you.
