Workshop: MASTERCLASS Knit (4 evenings)
Running again in 2018 our popular Knit Masterclass with Marianne from Beautiful Fierce.
This class will run over 4 evenings and is ideal for those who are looking to take their skills from novice to confident knitter.
Marianne's overall aim : "for you to become confident in reading your knitting - understanding the basic structure of a knitted fabric and how it is made. If you can learn to read your knitting, then you will be able to see if you have made a mistake and be able to fix it. You will become confident in following patterns and being able to work out where you are up to after putting it down for a bit."
This is not a project based class - instead you will focus on a new technique/concept or two each week and work on building a library of swatches.
Here is the class overview (see Calendar for Week 1 dates):
Getting organised - knitting kit essentials
Yarn & needle choices
Tension, swatching and measuring
Counting stitches & rows : Right side vs Wrong side
Cast on techniques
Shaping - increases & decreases
Joining yarn & changing colour
Picking up stitches
Knitting in the round
Exploring cables & fairisle techniques
Finishing your work
Seaming & sewing up
Weaving in ends
Please bring along to class - This is a practical class. A full list of what to bring, topics covered and any pre-workshop "homework" required will be included in a welcome letter issued in time for you to be fully prepared for the first class.
Prerequisites: Beginner Knit class at Cat off Collective or a competent knitter ready to advance
Tutor : Marianne Horton of Beautiful Fierce
Marianne has a genuine passion for teaching and creating beautiful objects with simple tools and beautiful fibres.
"Making things is one of my ways to tell a story - by shaping the material at hand, I am able to give voice to the tales of everyday life. Sometimes, those materials have their own words to add and so the story can often have a twist or an ending that surprises even the author."
